Earn To Upgrade – 12th Week Reflection

Hello Graceful Fam,

I am torn with joy and gratitude because this ‘journey of a thousand miles’ is about to end with the next step – wrapping it up with an onboarding ceremony.

Discipline and purpose has not been more creative than the progress I have recorded in the last 12 weeks; it is self-improvement carried with grace, clothed with strength and crowned with monumental success.

What started as gaining knowledge to stay remote-ready has eventually blossomed into a wealth of AI and other relevant IT skills. Sincerely, I am proud to have come this far.

The 12th week course; Introduction to Artificial Intelligence by IBM Corporation on Alison is a comprehensive and detailed introductory course on Artificial Intelligence.

It covers details from history through the evolution of AI till the present day. The term ‘Artificial Intelligence’ was coined to remark what AI is created to do; mimic the human brain.

It is a reforming fact to discover that AI machines and softwares have been designed to reason and perform like humans. Who first thought about this? It appears weird but it is possible, however, despite AI being simulated with years of research and experiment it is not built to replace humans rather it is built to assist humans from performing simple tasks such as repetitive lead generation to completing complex original content generating tasks and even more critical tasks like being used in the healthcare sector for diagnosis and managing patient records.

The reality of AI displacing humans in several roles, yet creating more job opportunities especially in the information and technology aspect is undeniable, however, humans are encouraged to brace up to the recent changes by doing the following:
* Shift the mindset from ‘Replacement’ and integrate AI into their workflows.
* Learn and refine human-only skills.
* Commit to continuous upskilling and reskilling.
* Lean into remote and virtual roles.
* Cultivate adaptability, resilience and career agility.

This course also delves into AI ethics which is the system of moral principles, values, and techniques designed to ensure AI technologies are developed and used responsibly.
AI ethics is based on five core pillars, which are;
1. Fairness and bias mitigation
2. Transparency and explainability
3. Privacy and data protection
4. Accountability
5. Safety and robustness.

Finally, this course taught how AI governance brings the structural framework to enforce AI ethics.

I am deeply impacted with the knowledge gained from this course and more prepared than ever to apply it and to continue improving.

With this, the twelfth week of the Earn to Upgrade programme draws it’s curtains and I am excited to say that from this point onwards it would be a resounding success… 🥂
