Course Overview
This course was built for the exact audience the Bridge Program serves: people who keep
hearing about AI but feel excluded from the conversation. It strips away the jargon and technical
complexity, covering what AI actually is, how machines interpret language, how they make
decisions, and how tools like ChatGPT and image generators work in practice. No coding, no
complicated maths, no prior experience needed. The course was reviewed by AI engineering
professional Noor Ul Huda and is designed to build clarity and confidence rather than technical
depth.
For participants who used AI tools during the Week 8 practical project, this course provides the
conceptual framework for understanding what those tools were actually doing. They have
already experienced AI as users. Now they learn what sits behind the interface.
Why This Course for Week 10
Week 10 marks the beginning of Month 3 — the AI readiness phase. After the mock interviews
in Week 9, participants know where they stand. Now the programme pivots toward the Mpowa
Heroes Academy pipeline, where AI literacy is the entry requirement. This course is the first
step in that pivot: a gentle, accessible introduction that ensures every participant — regardless
of technical background — enters Week 11 with a shared foundation of AI understanding.
The ECA framework identified that unfamiliar technical content is one of the highest-cost
learning experiences for participants. AI terminology can feel exclusionary — it creates cognitive
and emotional barriers that compound quickly. This course is specifically designed to lower
those barriers. It meets participants where they are and builds upward with relatable, practical
examples rather than abstract theory.
Why What Participants Will Learn
- What artificial intelligence actually is — and what it is not — clearing up misconceptions that
create unnecessary anxiety about AI replacing human work. - How machines interpret human language, make decisions, and learn from data — the
foundational concepts that make AI tools understandable rather than mysterious. - How generative AI tools like ChatGPT and image generators work — building on the practical AI
experience participants gained in Week 8. - Real-world applications of AI across industries — connecting AI concepts to the sectors and
roles participants are preparing to enter through Mpowa.
